What is an animal Response team?

Lincoln County Animal Response Team was developed following the national model to meet the need of appropriate rescue, sheltering, and care of animals following hurricane Katrina’s outcome.

It was discovered that we cherish our animals even more then ourselves during a disaster or emergency and would put ourselves in harms way to protect them or refuse to leave our beloved pets during a disaster.

There had to be a solution!

Through work with the Humane Society of America, FEMA, and other animal rescue leagues, the standard of Animal Sheltering, Animal rescue, and the coordination of these activities was developed.

Your role as an animal response team member may include response to disasters, setting up shelters for animals in conjunction with human shelters, registering animals, assisting with care of animals, or even being the one that comforts the animals.
